It's 11:30 PM. You've just landed at Delhi T3 after a 9-hour flight. You're tired, you have two bags, and you're walking into one of the world's busiest airport arrivals halls — alone.
Outside, there are 200 people waiting. Some hold name boards. Some are official taxi drivers. Some are not. The difference isn't always obvious, especially at midnight, especially if this is your first time in India.
This guide is about what actually makes that moment — and the journey after it — safe and predictable.
The specific risks at Indian airport arrivals
Indian airports are busy and mostly safe. But they have specific patterns that solo female travellers need to know:
Unauthorised taxi operators — The kerb outside T3 and T2 has a mix of official pre-paid taxis, app cab pickup zones, and individuals who approach travellers directly. The latter are not airport-licensed and the situations they create can range from overcharging to unsafe.
The "helpful stranger" pattern — At arrivals, you may be approached by someone offering to carry your bags, help you find a taxi, or assist with a phone. This is common and almost always a lead-in to a commission-based scam or worse.
Night arrivals are riskier — International arrivals at Delhi T3 cluster between 1 AM and 6 AM (Gulf and European connections). At these hours, the airport is both busy and dimly lit in the approach roads, and app cab availability can be unreliable.
Confusion about which exit — T3 has three international arrival gates (4, 5, 6). Not knowing which one you'll exit from makes it harder to coordinate a pickup.
What changes when you have a pre-arranged name board
When you book airport assistance before you land, one thing changes that makes everything else easier: you know exactly who you're looking for, and they know exactly who you are.

Terminal-specific advice for solo women
Delhi T3 (international arrivals)
T3 is large and well-lit, but the 1–6 AM international wave creates a dense, busy arrivals hall. The official pre-paid taxi booth is inside the terminal before you exit — if you want a taxi without booking in advance, that booth is the safe option. Avoid anyone who approaches you on the kerb.
The Ola/Uber designated pickup zone is well-marked and safe, but at peak hours (2–4 AM) surge pricing is extreme and driver availability fluctuates.
Mumbai T2 (international arrivals)
Gate 2 is the main exit for international arrivals. The outside kerb area at T2 at night is more chaotic than Delhi — more operators, more noise. The Uber/Ola designated zone is 200m to the right of the main exit. Don't accept any offer of help in the immediate kerb area.
Hyderabad HYD
HYD is a single terminal and generally the most manageable of the three for solo female travellers. The arrivals area is smaller and better controlled. Still: pre-booked car over kerb cab.
Practical tips beyond the airport
- Have your driver's name, car number plate, and WhatsApp saved before you land. If you've booked through us, this is in your confirmation email.
- Share your live location with someone at home for the journey from the airport to your accommodation. WhatsApp live location for 1 hour is sufficient.
- If something feels wrong, re-enter the airport. Both T3 and T2 have 24-hour staff and security. Going back in and calling your accommodation or a friend is always the right move.
- Avoid arriving between 1–4 AM if you have any flexibility. Not because it's dangerous, but because that's when the kerb is most crowded and app cabs are least predictable.
- Book your accommodation pickup for the same time the car arrives, not 30 minutes earlier. Indian airports work on real-time flight tracking — your driver will be there when you land, not guessing.
What does "verified" mean for our drivers?
