Solo Female Travel India: Airport Arrival Safety Guide (Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad)
It's 11:30 PM. You've just landed at Delhi T3 after a 9-hour flight. You're tired, you have two bags, and you're walking into one of the world's busiest airport arrivals halls โ alone.
Outside, there are 200 people waiting. Some hold name boards. Some are official taxi drivers. Some are not. The difference isn't always obvious, especially at midnight, especially if this is your first time in India.
This guide is about what actually makes that moment โ and the journey after it โ safe and predictable.
The specific risks at Indian airport arrivals
Indian airports are busy and mostly safe. But they have specific patterns that solo female travellers need to know:
Unauthorised taxi operators โ The kerb outside T3 and T2 has a mix of official pre-paid taxis, app cab pickup zones, and individuals who approach travellers directly. The latter are not airport-licensed and the situations they create can range from overcharging to unsafe.
The "helpful stranger" pattern โ At arrivals, you may be approached by someone offering to carry your bags, help you find a taxi, or assist with a phone. This is common and almost always a lead-in to a commission-based scam or worse.
Night arrivals are riskier โ International arrivals at Delhi T3 cluster between 1 AM and 6 AM (Gulf and European connections). At these hours, the airport is both busy and dimly lit in the approach roads, and app cab availability can be unreliable.
Confusion about which exit โ T3 has three international arrival gates (4, 5, 6). Not knowing which one you'll exit from makes it harder to coordinate a pickup.
What changes when you have a pre-arranged name board
When you book airport assistance before you land, one thing changes that makes everything else easier: you know exactly who you're looking for, and they know exactly who you are.
Our assistant is inside the arrivals hall โ not outside โ holding a name board with your name. You spot him before you exit the secure area. You don't have to make a decision about who to approach or who to trust. The decision is already made.
From that point: - He carries your bags. You don't navigate a luggage trolley alone. - He escorts you to the car โ which is pre-confirmed, not found on the kerb. - You're in a verified vehicle within 15โ20 minutes of clearing customs.
For solo female travellers, the value of this isn't primarily time. It's the absence of the moment where you have to make a judgment call about a stranger in an unfamiliar place at midnight.
What the service actually includes
Porter Service (bags only, from baggage claim to car) โ from โน1,180. Best for experienced India travellers who want bag help and a verified car but can navigate the terminal themselves.
Meet & Greet (full escort, met at the aerobridge or gate, through immigration and customs, bags, to car) โ from โน3,499 at Delhi and Mumbai. Best for first-time visitors or anyone arriving late at night.
Airport Transfer only (pre-booked verified car, flight-tracked, no baggage help) โ from โน1,799. Best for frequent India travellers who want a reliable pickup without paying for the full escort.
All options include a real-time WhatsApp update to your emergency contact or travel partner โ so someone at home knows you've landed and are in the car.
Terminal-specific advice for solo women
Delhi T3 (international arrivals)
T3 is large and well-lit, but the 1โ6 AM international wave creates a dense, busy arrivals hall. The official pre-paid taxi booth is inside the terminal before you exit โ if you want a taxi without booking in advance, that booth is the safe option. Avoid anyone who approaches you on the kerb.
The Ola/Uber designated pickup zone is well-marked and safe, but at peak hours (2โ4 AM) surge pricing is extreme and driver availability fluctuates.
Mumbai T2 (international arrivals)
Gate 2 is the main exit for international arrivals. The outside kerb area at T2 at night is more chaotic than Delhi โ more operators, more noise. The Uber/Ola designated zone is 200m to the right of the main exit. Don't accept any offer of help in the immediate kerb area.
Hyderabad HYD
HYD is a single terminal and generally the most manageable of the three for solo female travellers. The arrivals area is smaller and better controlled. Still: pre-booked car over kerb cab.
Practical tips beyond the airport
- Have your driver's name, car number plate, and WhatsApp saved before you land. If you've booked through us, this is in your confirmation email.
- Share your live location with someone at home for the journey from the airport to your accommodation. WhatsApp live location for 1 hour is sufficient.
- If something feels wrong, re-enter the airport. Both T3 and T2 have 24-hour staff and security. Going back in and calling your accommodation or a friend is always the right move.
- Avoid arriving between 1โ4 AM if you have any flexibility. Not because it's dangerous, but because that's when the kerb is most crowded and app cabs are least predictable.
- Book your accommodation pickup for the same time the car arrives, not 30 minutes earlier. Indian airports work on real-time flight tracking โ your driver will be there when you land, not guessing.
What does "verified" mean for our drivers?
Our drivers are not app-cab hailed 5 minutes before you land. They're pre-booked, background-verified, and confirmed before your flight departs. The driver has your name, flight number, and arrival time. If your flight is delayed, they wait โ no extra charge.
Every booking includes the driver's name, photo, and plate number sent to your WhatsApp before you land. You know what you're looking for before the doors open.
Frequently asked questions
I'm arriving at 2 AM. Is the driver actually going to be there? Yes. We track your flight in real time. The driver's arrival time is calculated from the actual landing time, not the scheduled time. If your flight is 2 hours late, the driver adjusts. You're not paying for them to sit in a car park for 2 hours.
Can I share the booking with a travel partner who's arriving on a different flight? Yes โ book separately for each arrival and note that the cars should coordinate to the same drop-off destination.
I'm in India for the first time. Is Meet & Greet worth it vs just Porter Service? For a first-time arrival, especially at night: yes. The value is being met before you exit the secure zone, not having to navigate the arrivals hall confusion, and being with someone who knows the terminal.
What if I need to change the booking time last minute? WhatsApp us with your booking reference. We'll adjust โ within reason on the same day, any change is fine with 2+ hours notice.
India is a remarkable place to travel. The airport moment โ that first 30 minutes after you land โ shouldn't be the part you dread.
